Richard Herda-Vogel (born April 21, 1900 in Königszelt near Schweidnitz in Silesia, † March 2, 1965 in Großgartach ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

life and work

He completed an apprenticeship in lithography and then attended the Reimann School in Berlin and the School of Applied Arts in Flensburg . As a painter, he also took lessons from Woite in Schweidnitz and Egon Tirsch in Rostock . As a lithographer he worked for various companies in Northern Germany before he took over the management of the lithographic department of the large printing house Volk in Heilbronn in 1926 . Richard and Thekla Herda-Vogel's apartment was destroyed in the air raids on Heilbronn in 1944. The couple therefore settled in Großgartach in 1945 , where they later created a large number of watercolor works. In addition to general landscape motifs, Richard Herda-Vogel painted numerous motifs from his closer home, including two portfolios with motifs from Heilbronn and Bad Wimpfen . In 1950 Herda-Vogel was one of the initiators of the Großgartacher Käsritt , which has been held every three years since then. His widow bequeathed the house and numerous works by the painter to the community of Leingarten.

Appreciation

In 1976 Richard Herda-Vogel was honored with a memorial exhibition at his last place of residence, Leingarten. In 1981, Herda-Vogel-Strasse was named after him in this community .
