Richard Hohenner (born January 2, 1896 in Vohenstrauss , † October 29, 1981 in Augsburg ) was a German administrative officer and local politician. He made great contributions to the Augsburg settlement system and was therefore often referred to as the "settler father".

Career

Hohenner was born on January 2nd, 1896, the son of a railway official in Vohenstrauss. In 1905 he moved to Mertingen , as his father had taken over the management of the Mertingen – Wertingen railway line and had been given an official residence there. Hohenner first attended the Royal Bavarian Progymnasium in Donauwörth and then began training in the administration of the city of Augsburg in 1912.

From 1922 to 1934 Hohenner was chairman of the Augsburg branch of the Federation of German Soil Reformers . In 1924, Hohenner also succeeded in joining the Augsburg city council. There he fought until 1933 for the promotion of allotment gardens as well as for the construction of residential property and small settlements. The visible successes of his engagement were settlement projects for low-income families that started in the Hammerschmiede as well as in Hochzoll, Pfersee and Lechhausen. Hohenner also played a key role in establishing the Bärenkeller settlement .

In 1938, Hohenner joined the NSDAP in order to be able to continue working as the district chairman of the tenants' associations in Swabia . In 1944 he also took over the management of the Augsburg Housing and District Office.

Due to his party affiliation, the military government ordered Hohenner's dismissal on August 1, 1945. In 1947 the Spruchkammer classified him as a follower, so that on January 16, 1948 he returned to the administrative service of the city of Augsburg. He first became a member of the Free Voters' Association and later joined the electoral community of tenants, settlers and consumers .

In 1952 he moved back to the city council, where he campaigned for settlers and nature conservation until 1972. Until his retirement in 1961, he also worked in the economic and housing office as well as in the land administration and settlement office of the city of Augsburg. In the years that followed, Hohenner received several honors for his commitment. Richard Hohenner died on October 29, 1981.
