Coat of arms of the city of Augsburg

The city of Augsburg has given 39 people honorary citizenship since 1820 . This right was withdrawn from five of these people.

In the course of the incorporation of the town of Göggingen and the town of Haunstetten on July 1, 1972, the honorary citizenships conferred there were taken over by Otto Aurnhammer , Wolfgang Butz and Xaver Widmeier . In 2010, the honorary citizenships awarded in Haunstetten by Maria Cäcilia Countess von Tattenbach and Eberhard Spickermann were added to the list. After urban research in old documents, two more honorary citizenships of the Markt Oberhausen, which was added to Augsburg, were added, as well as two more honorary citizenships of the former municipality of Bergheim.

In addition, in 1933 Paul von Hindenburg , Adolf Hitler , Franz von Epp and Ludwig Siebert , and in 1939 Franz Xaver Schwarz were made honorary citizens. These honors were revoked again in August 1946 and January 1947 by resolution of the Augsburg city council.

Note: The listing is done chronologically according to the date of award. The numbering takes into account the 34 awards given by the city and the awards taken over from Göggingen (3), Haunstetten, Oberhausen and Bergheim (2 each).
