Richard Hoin (born July 23, 1879 in Odersbach ; † October 14, 1944 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ) who was murdered by the Gestapo during the rule of the National Socialists .

Life

Hoin became a member of the carpenters union in Essen in 1897 . From 1899 to 1901 he was a soldier with the pioneers in Metz (→ Metz Fortress ). In 1901 he was sentenced to three days' imprisonment for lese majesty . In the following years he participated in the development of the SPD in his home district.

In 1906 he was the founder and chairman of the Social Democratic Electoral Association for the Diez, Limburg and Weilburg district , the first association of social democrats in this region. During the First World War he did military service as a soldier on the Eastern Front . From October to December 1918 he was chairman of the workers 'and soldiers' council of the Oberlahnkreis . In this function, he named the establishment of a "socialist republic" and the " United States of Europe " as political goals in a public people's assembly that took place on November 17, 1918 in the district town of Weilburg with the participation of a large crowd . Since January 1, 1919, he worked as a full-time party secretary of the SPD in the joint office with the railway workers' union in Limburg and was responsible for party work in the Wiesbaden district .

At the time of the Weimar Republic he was “First District Deputy” of the Oberlahnkreis and in this position deputy to the District Administrator . After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, he was arrested for the first time on May 10, 1933, and after the SPD was banned in June 1933, he was unemployed for a long time. Hoin had to make ends meet as a soap agent at times. He was placed under constant police supervision and his car was confiscated.

In the aftermath of the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , he was arrested again on August 26, 1944 on the basis of a denunciation and imprisoned in the Preungesheim prison. Even before the planned transport to Dachau , he was released with serious injuries and died on October 14 as a result of the ill-treatment in custody.

Remembrance and commemoration

Hoin and four other victims of the Nazi regime have been honored as a resistance fighter on a plaque in the Limburg DGB house since July 20, 1971 .

In Odersbach, too, the SPD started an initiative at the end of 2007 for a memorial plaque in honor of Richard Hoin. This memorial plaque was placed on the former town hall in Odersbach by the city of Weilburg in October 2008.
