Richard J. Shavelson

Richard J. Shavelson (born November 28, 1942 ) is an American educational psychologist .

Live and act

Shavelson is the son of screenwriter Mel Shavelson. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Stanford University .

He was a professor at UCLA and the University of California at Santa Barbara and joined the Stanford faculty in 1971. He was a professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Education , where he was also dean and president of the American Educational Research Association .

He has published over 100 research articles and books in the fields of education assessment, cognitive psychology, and science education. The hierarchical self-concept model that he published in 1976 together with Judith J. Hubner and George C. Stanton has become particularly well known .

Awards

Shavelson received the EL Thorndike Award from the American Psychological Association in 2010 . The award recognized his research contributions in educational psychology .
