Life

Richard Kühnelt came from an old Austrian civil servant family; his father, Anton Kühnelt (1842–1898), had been the general director of the Nordwestbahn . After completing his legal studies, Kühnelt entered the railway service and made it to the position of railway inspector.

Kühnelt spent a large part of his life in England and America, lived there for some time as a cowboy and sailed through large parts of the South Seas . In his works he evaluated these travel experiences literarily. In 1911/12 he was editor of the communications of the Austro-Hungarian cinema industry . He was President of the Lower Austrian Writers 'Association and in 1928 the founder and president of the Alpine Writers' Association . Occasionally he also worked as a director.

On October 6, 1930 Kühnelt was on a Deutsche Lufthansa flight from Berlin via Dresden to Vienna . Before the stopover in Dresden, the machine, a Messerschmitt M20 , crashed next to the landing site. The list of the dead , announced on the same day, identified the writer Dr. Richard Kühnelt, lives in Baden near Vienna .

Kühnelt was married to Elsa Maria for the second time; the daughters Liesl (* 1914) and Gretl (* 1921) came from the connection .

Richard Kühnelt was buried for rest on October 11, 1930 at the parish cemetery in Baden near Vienna.
