Ignaz Roth (born March 1, 1894 in Weibersbrunn , † March 4, 1972 in Zweibrücken ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Ignaz Roth comes from a long-established family of forester in the Spessart . After attending school, Roth completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter, which he completed with the assistant test. In 1911 he became a member of the German Woodworkers Association . He then went on a journey, but was drafted into the military when the First World War broke out . In 1915 he was wounded and was taken to a hospital in Zweibrücken. He worked in the carpentry trade since 1918. In 1919 he founded a family in Zweibrücken. From 1922 he was district leader of the woodworkers' association. From 1926 Roth worked as an employee at a consumer cooperative and from 1929 as a specialist for unemployment insurance at the employment office. In 1933 he was dismissed for political reasons. During the time of National Socialism he was briefly taken into “ protective custody ” and then placed under police supervision. From 1934 to 1945 he worked as a self-employed carpenter.

Political party

Roth had been a member of the SPD since 1911. He resigned in protest against the SPD's consent to join the war and was a member of the USPD from 1917 to 1922 . Then he rejoined the SPD and became head of the social democratic sub-district Zweibrücken, at the same time district head of the woodworkers' association.

MP

In 1946/47 Roth was a member of the Advisory State Assembly for drafting the State Constitution for the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, founded in 1947 . He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1947 to 1963. Here he was chairman of the refugee committee in 1947/48 and a member of the border region committee in all four terms.

Public offices

Roth served as mayor appointed by the US Army in 1945/46 and from 1946 to 1959 as Lord Mayor of the city ​​of Zweibrücken . A significant part of the rapid reconstruction of the 85% destroyed city is ascribed to him. In particular, he was very committed to non-profit housing construction .
