Kurt Jakob Pirmann (born June 16, 1955 in Zweibrücken ; † June 25, 2018 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From July 1, 2012 until his death he was Lord Mayor of Zweibrücken.

Life

Kurt Pirmann trained as a machine fitter from 1970 to 1973 and then worked at John Deere . He began to get involved in the SPD and became managing director of the SPD in Pirmasens . In 1992 he became mayor of the Zweibrücken-Land association . He held this office until 2012. For his almost 20 years of service, he was awarded the plaque of honor of the Verbandsgemeinde.

In 2011 he ran for Mayor of Zweibrücken. After an election success of 56.9% in the first ballot, he succeeded his competitor Helmut Reichling (independent).

The renovation of the pedestrian zone fell during his reign, and he was also the initiator of the “City on the Water” project. In autumn 2017 Kurt Pirmann was diagnosed with serious cancer. Pirmann was then on sick leave, during which time Mayor Christian Gauf (CDU) took his place. Originally, Pirmann wanted to return to office in autumn 2018, but on June 25, 2018 he died unexpectedly in St. Elisabeth Hospital in Zweibrücken. He was 63 years old.
