Werner von Blon

Werner von Blon (born January 23, 1929 in Wiesau ; † February 8, 2009 in Homburg ) was a German local politician ( SPD ).

Life

In 1931 the family moved to Eger , where von Blon attended elementary and high school. From January to May 1945 he did military service, got into Soviet captivity and was interned until the end of 1945. Born in Upper Palatinate, von Blon lived in Zweibrücken since 1946 . Von Blon began his teacher training in 1947 and entered school service in 1949.

From 1980 to 1993 he was Lord Mayor of Zweibrücken. Before that he was a member of the city council for his party for a long time, most recently as chairman of the parliamentary group.

Until his death, Werner von Blon was still active on the board of the 60+ working group (seniors) of the local SPD and as chairman of the municipal senior citizens' council.

In addition to his political activities, von Blon dealt with local history topics, some of which he published in Zweibrücker dialect.

In honor of Werner von Blons, the rose breeder Karl Hetzel named a newly cultivated climbing rose after him in 1993, which has found widespread use. This was done because the mayor of the city of roses in Zweibrücken was responsible for the traditional international rose regattas.

In 1996, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of the SPD-Zweibrücken, von Blon published the work Democratic New Beginning: the re-establishment of the Zweibrücken local association of the Social Democratic Party after the war

On February 7, 2009, von Blon crossed a street on his way to an event in Zweibrücken and was hit by a car. He was admitted to the Homburg University Hospital with very serious injuries, where he succumbed to his injuries a little later.
