Helmut Reichling

Helmut Reichling (* 1952 in Zweibrücken ) is a German entrepreneur and university professor . From 2004 to 2012 he was Lord Mayor of Zweibrücken.

Life

Helmut Reichling studied law , psychology and business administration at the universities of Saarbrücken , Boston , Aix en Provence and Venice . After graduating, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Empirical Economic Development in Saarbrücken. He then worked, among other things, as assistant to the director of the Röchling-Burbach steelworks , assistant to the management of Zahn & Noppen in Stuttgart and of Otto Wolff von Amerongen . He became authorized signatory of Otto Wolff Stahlhandels GmbH.

In 1981 he took over the management of the family business Stahlgroßhandelsbetrieb Weinmann & Co KG, which he ran as the sole owner until March 31, 2018. The company headquarters moved to Waldmohr in 2015 . On April 1, 2018, the company was taken over by Chr. Ufer GmbH in Landau after no company inheritance was found and Reichling wanted to retire from business life at 66.

In 1994 Reichling was appointed professor at the newly established Zweibrücken University of Applied Sciences, a campus of the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. His field of study is business administration .

Political career

In the mayor election in 2003 in Zweibrücken he ran as a non-party candidate and achieved an absolute majority with 68 percent in the first ballot. Despite his non-party position in office, he is a CDU member. In 2011 he ran again, but lost in the first ballot against his successor Kurt Pirmann from the SPD . He was the first and so far only Lord Mayor of the city who was not re-elected by the citizens.
