Richard Müller (politician, 1913)

Richard Müller (born February 22, 1913 in Zurich ; † October 23, 1986 in Muri near Bern ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Richard Müller, son of the wood wholesaler Josef Müller, attended schools in Zurich and graduated from high school in 1931. He studied economics and law in Paris and Zurich and received his doctorate in 1940 at Richard Buchner in Zurich Dr. oec. publ. From 1941 to 1961 Müller was Central Secretary of the PTT Union , and from 1961 to 1978 its General Secretary. From 1942 to 1958 he was Bernese Grand Councilor and from 1963 to 1983 National Councilor . From 1970 he was Vice President of the SP, from 1972 to 1978 he chaired the Social Democratic Group of the Federal Assembly . He was Vice President of the Federation and the Swiss Confederation of Trade Unions and its President from 1978 to 1982. From 1977 to 1983 he was a member of the Swiss delegation to the Council of Europe . He also presided over the Swiss group of the Interparliamentary Union .
