Richard Mason
Richard Mason (born May 16, 1919 in Hale , Cheshire , † October 13, 1997 in Rome ) was a British writer .
Life
Mason was born near Manchester in 1919 and educated at Bryanston School Dorset . He worked for a film magazine and later for the British Council . During World War II he was used by the Royal Air Force in Burma and Malaya , where he had the opportunity to learn Japanese. He was entrusted with interrogating prisoners of war.
He is the author of the books Shadows over the Blue Mountains and ... because the wind can't read , which he finished during the Burma campaign .
Impressions and experiences from the time he lived in Hong Kong inspired him to write the novel Suzie Wong , which was filmed in 1960 with William Holden and Nancy Kwan in the leading roles as The World of Suzie Wong .
Richard Mason died of lung cancer in Rome in 1997.
