Richard Muth

Richard Ferris Muth (born May 14, 1927 in Chicago - † April 10, 2018 ) was an American economist and university professor . He was one of the pioneers in urban economics .

Career, research and teaching

Muth first studied at Washington University . After attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 , he left the university the following year as a Master of Arts degree . In 1958 he graduated with a Ph.D. Degree from the University of Chicago . First he stayed at the college, later he followed a call from Stanford University and finally Emory University .

Together with Edwin Mills and William Alonso , Muth developed the basics of spatial economics and urban economics. Mills and Muth used spatial analysis methods to develop fundamental urban development processes and made important contributions to the development of the model of the monocentric urban structure .
