Richard Onslow, 3rd Baron Onslow , KB (* 1713 in London ; † October 8, 1776 ) was an English nobleman and politician .

Life

Family and title

Onslow was the only child of the politician Thomas Onslow and his wife Elizabeth Knight. His maternal grandfather was a Jamaican merchant. On May 16, 1741, he married Mary Ellwill, daughter of Edmund Ellwill, 3rd Baronet of Exeter. The couple remained childless. He received the hereditary title of Baron Onslow of Onslow in 1740. Since there was no direct male descendant at his death, the title passed to his great cousin George . After his death, Onslow was buried in Merrow .

Career

Onslow received his education from 1725 to 1728 at Eton College . On August 22 In 1730 he enrolled at Sidney Sussex College of the University of Cambridge one. He began his political career in 1734 as an MP for the constituency of Guildford . He held this seat until his father's death in 1740. He followed this as Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. That same year he was also named Guildford's high steward, a position he held until his death. In 1752 he was raised to the night companion of the Order of the Bath .
