Richard Ring

Richard Ring (born April 14, 1938 ; † July 6, 2018 ) was a Canadian jazz guitarist who was mainly active in the jazz scene in Montreal .

Live and act

Ring worked in the Canadian music scene from the late 1950s; first recordings were made in 1960 with Estelle Caron, Buck Lacombe & Strings for the Canadian broadcaster CBC. In the following years he played a. a. with Jack Rider, Gerry Hoelke , Tony Chappell , Yvan Landy and the Denny Christianson Big Band; he also performed with his wife, the singer Ranee Lee , and was featured on numerous of their albums such as You Must Believe in Swing, Seasons of Love, Maple Groove: Songs of the Great Canadian Songbook and What Is Going On? . In 1995 he recorded his debut album Ring in Minor for Justin Time Records , on which Jean Lebrun (fl), Tilden Webb (p), Oliver Jones , Dave Young (b), Wali Muhammad (dr) and Ranee Lee participated. He has also played with musicians such as Tony Bennett , Sammy Davis Jr. , Ed Thigpen , Ray Brown and Michel Legrand throughout his career . In the field of jazz he was involved in 37 recording sessions between 1960 and 2013, in later years also with Charlie Biddle .
