Richard Ruin and Les Demoniaques

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Ruin et Les Demoniaques is a German post-rock band that was founded in 2003 in Berlin by the visual artist Martin Eder . The group has been operating under the name RUIN since 2010 .

The singer Richard Ruin is an alter ego of Martin Eder. Occasionally Eder flirts with his second identity, he claimed in a television report for Deutsche Welle that he did not even know the painter. The current line-up is Richard Ruin (vocals, guitar), Mike Strauss (keyboard), Roderick Miller (keyboard), Thomas Fietz (drums), Achim Färber (drums) and Jonathan Heine (bass), Moritz Stumm ( visuals ).

history

The band was founded in 2003 with the original goal of creating a soundtrack for an imaginary film. The first members were Richard Ruin, Mike Strauss (Les Hommes Sauvages), Dirk Müller and Yoyo Röhm, soon followed by Roderick Miller (Bee and Flower) and Stefan Creutzburg.

Guests on the first album "The Heimlich Maneuver" included Thomas Wydler ( Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds ), Larry Mullins aka Toby Dammit ( Iggy Pop / Jessie Evans) and Kristof Hahn ( Swans / Les Hommes Sauvages). Achim Färber (including Project Pitchfork ) and Jochen Arbeit ( Einstürzende Neubauten ) are involved several times live .

The sound of the band was difficult to assign to a particular genre from the start. Characteristic of the first creative years was a fundamentally melancholic to almost pathetic undertone in all pieces, in the sense of classic ballads from Roy Orbison to Bobby Vinton. Elements of analog noise and distortion have been added to this. This created a very unique musical expression. As a result of personnel restructuring, the style of music also continued to change up to the deliberate deconstruction of familiar song structures and modes of reception. The principle of the band is to break clichés and subvert expectations through arrangements and unusual stage spectacles. In all pieces of music a sublime macabre or desperate undertone can be recognized both lyrically and aesthetically, which can also be categorized as "spooky" or surreally dreamy. Thus Richard Ruin et Les Demoniaques are until 2009 a. a. to be classified as the founder of Chanson Noir.

Since RUIN mostly use visual media as well as actors in their elaborate stage shows, concerts are seldom preferred at selected and appropriate theater locations.

With the experimental deconstructive phase in musical creation and the collaboration with the Berlin avant-garde classical soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop, from the end of 2009 RUIN will pave the way for a new musical genre that combines elements of ambient black metal with modern orchestral composition.
