Richard Schnauder
Georg Richard Schnauder (born January 12, 1886 in Dresden ; † May 28, 1956 there ) was a German sculptor and draftsman .
Life
Richard Schnauder was born the son of the sculptor Reinhard Schnauder (1856–1923). At an early age he worked in his father's studio and thus received a basis for his later artistic work. As a result, he studied at the Art Academy in Dresden . with J. Große, Ernst Julius Hähnel and later at the arts and crafts school in Paris . His study trips took him to Paris and Rome . He later returned to Dresden and worked as a freelance sculptor in his own studio. He lived at Ziegelstrasse 16 and had his studio on Elisenstrasse. As a result of the multiple devastating bombing raids on Dresden in 1945 , he lost his apartment and studio and all of his works. The new beginning was very difficult in the destroyed city, also because he could not make friends with the new communist rulers. Nevertheless, he worked as an artistic advisor in the reconstruction. His artistic works were mainly small sculptures, portraits and cemetery art.
