Richard Stöss

Richard Stöss (born March 18, 1944 in Sankt Goar ) is a German political scientist and adjunct professor at the Free University of Berlin . His research focuses on right-wing extremism and party research .

Life and academic career

Stöss graduated from high school in 1965 and passed the diploma examination in political science at the Free University of Berlin in 1970 . From 1969 to 1996 he worked at the Central Institute for Social Science Research at the Free University of Berlin. There he was a student assistant and research assistant or part-time assistant until 1971, research assistant from 1971 to 1976 and research assistant from 1976 to 1996 (initially in the DFG project "Party System", from 1977 unlimited). Stöss received his doctorate in 1978 under Wolf-Dieter Narr with a dissertation on the subject of “Conservative revolution against the basic consensus. The German Community / Action Group of Independent Germans in the Party System of the Federal Republic of Germany "at the Free University of Berlin for Dr. phil. Also at the Free University of Berlin, his habilitation thesis was accepted in 1984 for the subject of political science on the subject of "Structure and Development of the Party System in the Federal Republic - A Theory".

Since 1996 Stöss was a member of the Department of Political Science, today's Department of Political and Social Sciences, of the Free University of Berlin and Managing Director of the Otto Stammer Center - Office for Empirical Political Sociology . Stöss was appointed adjunct professor in 2004. Stöss has been retired since April 1, 2009.

Richard Stöss is a member of the SPD .
