Richard Sturzenegger

Richard Sturzenegger (born December 18, 1905 in Zurich ; † October 24, 1976 in Münsingen BE ; resident in Reute and from 1951 in Bern ) was a Swiss musician , composer and music teacher .

Life

Richard Sturzenegger was the son of Karl Ludwig Sturzenegger and Anna Johanna Eugenia Hassler. In 1935 Sturzenegger married Helga Berta Elisa Sibylla Paascke, a German citizen. His second wife was Nora von Tavel.

Sturzenegger completed a music degree in Paris . He learned the cello from Fritz Reitz, Diran Alexandrian and Pablo Casals as well as harmony and counterpoint from Nadia Boulanger . From 1927 to 1935 Sturzenegger was a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and solo cellist of the Dresden Philharmonic . He also took composition lessons from Ernst Toch . From 1935 Sturzenegger worked as the solo cellist of the Bern Music Society and was a member of the Bern String Quartet . At the same time he became a teacher for cello and chamber music at the Conservatory of Music . From 1963 to 1976 he was director there. Sturzenegger's compositional oeuvre includes orchestral works, chamber music, works for violoncello and songs.
