Richard van Rijssen

Richard van Rijssen (born May 11, 1953 in Deventer ) is a Dutch diplomat . He was the Dutch ambassador to Norway and was the Dutch ambassador to Slovakia from 2013 to 2017 .

Life

Richard van Rijssen graduated from the Hogereburgerschool Rijks HBS in Deventer in 1971 and graduated in 1979 in legal philosophy , civil law and international relations from the University of Groningen ; for the last two years he was a research assistant there. He graduated from the École nationale d'administration in Paris .

Richard van Rijssen is married and has one son.

Diplomatic missions

Richard van Rijssen has worked for the Dutch Foreign Ministry since 1979. His first foreign assignments took him to the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and to the embassies in Algiers and Washington, DC From 1995 to 1999 he was Counselor at the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations in Geneva , where he was Chairman and Spokesman ( Chairman-Rapporteur) of the Working Group for the Preparation of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Affairs , which had its first meeting in 2002. From 1999 to 2001 he was head of the department for economics, politics, press and culture at the embassy in Bangkok , from 2001 to 2006 he worked for the trade department of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs in The Hague , from 2002 as head of this department. From 2006 to 2008 he was deputy head of mission at the embassy in Washington and from 2008 to 2009 project manager in security matters at the State Department in The Hague.

In 2009 he was appointed ambassador to the Netherlands in Oslo . As an ambassador to Norway, he was also accredited for Iceland . In 2013 he was replaced by Bea ten Tusscher . From September 2013 to June 2017 Richard van Rijssen was the successor to Daphne Bergsma as the Dutch ambassador in Bratislava . His successor in Slovakia is Henk van der Kwast .
