Richard von Foregger (born June 27, 1872 in Vienna , † January 18, 1960 in Roslyn , New York ) was an Austrian -US chemist, industrialist and Olympic swimmer.

Life

Richard von Foregger graduated from the Realschule Wiener Neustadt in 1890 and studied chemistry in Munich, Stuttgart and most recently in Bern, where he received his doctorate. After graduating, he worked on the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway . At the Summer Olympics in Paris in 1900 he was a participant for Austria-Hungary and reached the semi-finals in freestyle swimming over 200 m.

In 1902 he moved to the USA and became a citizen there in 1910. Professionally he worked on air treatment systems, in particular for anesthesia . Richard von Foregger founded a company for the production of anesthesia machines in 1914 , which in 1950 had a market share of 15% in the USA. He was involved in the introduction of the metric system in medical devices.
