Roslyn (/ ROHZ-lin /) is a village in Nassau County in New York and is located on the North Shore of Long Island . In 2010 the place once called Hempstead Harbor had 2,770 inhabitants. The name change took place on September 7, 1844 for postal reasons, as there were several places with this name on Long Island. The name of the place is derived from the Scottish village of Roslin .
