from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richardus Petri (* 1597 in Dagebüll ; † June 2, 1678 in Süderende ; also known as Ricardus Petri ) was the main preacher in the parish of St. Laurentii in the western part of the island of Föhr from 1620 until his death in 1678 . He is the first nautical teacher known by name on the North Frisian Islands . This marked the beginning of the series of navigation instructors and navigation schools on the island of Föhr and the neighboring islands. He offered the seafarers free lessons in mathematics , astronomy and nautical science, if they were willing in return to later freely pass on their knowledge to future generations as a commander or helmsman.
