Richmond Cavill "Dick" Eve (born March 19, 1901 in Parramatta City , † March 13, 1970 in Concord ) was an Australian diver . In 1924 he became Olympic champion in simple diving.

Eve's mother, Freda, was the daughter of a successful British swimmer who won several national titles. Richmond Eve got into swimming and diving at a young age at Manly Amateur Swimming Club . He fought his first title fights in the junior division during a two-year stay of his family in San Francisco , where diving was more popular and professional. Upon his return, Eve was trained in wool classification at Sydney Technical College . Eve achieved her first sporting successes in the early 1920s. Between 1921 and 1925 he won all national jumping championships. He took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris . The lack of international experience made itself felt in jumping from the 3-meter board, finishing fifth behind an American trio and a Swede. The simple tower diving was more successful, in which less acrobatic jumps from the 5 m and 10 m tower had to be demonstrated. Eve won the competition and became the first Australian Olympic champion in diving. Initially, he also wanted to take part in high diving, but had to cancel his participation due to an injury.

In 1926, Eve took over the management of a swimming pool in Manly . He then lost his amateur status from the Australian Association, which made a start at the 1928 Olympic Games impossible. Despite several requests, this decision was never overturned by the association, so Eve ended his career. In World War II, Eve served a year in the Australian Army. After the war he worked again in the profession he had learned. He remained connected to swimming, however, and is said to have introduced the later Olympic champion Murray Rose to swimming. Eve's two marriages had three children. He died of a heart attack in 1970.
