Rickie Lee Lambert (born February 16, 1982 in Liverpool ) is a former English football player . Lambert was considered a late starter who made his final breakthrough in 2009 at Southampton FC , where he quickly became indispensable due to his high goal rate. Although he already met regularly in his previous clubs (in the Football League One of the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons he was even top scorer with 29 and 30 goals), he did not play with Southampton in the Premier until the 2012/13 season League . In 2013 Lambert made his debut for the English national team for the first time - at the age of 31 .

Lambert's strengths lie in his coolness in front of goal and his robust style of play, which he uses consciously due to his stature, he was also effective at Southampton as an assist and passgiver. Lambert is also known as a good free-kick and especially a penalty taker: during his time at Southampton, he took 34 penalties, all of which he was able to convert. Because of his style of play, he has been compared to Southampton legend Matthew Le Tissier .

Blackpool FC and Macclesfield Town (1999–2002)

Rickie Lambert made his debut on August 7, 1999 for third division Blackpool FC in a 2-1 home win over Wrexham FC. After two more league appearances, he rose with his team at the end of the season in the fourth division. After terminating his contract in Blackpool, he moved to Macclesfield Town in March 2001 . In the 2001/02 season, the 19-year-old attacker earned a regular place and scored eight goals in thirty-five league games before he left the club before the end of the season.

Stockport County and Rochdale AFC (2002-2006)

On April 26, 2002 Lambert moved for £ 300,000 to the already relegated second division club Stockport County . After a bad first season (29 games / 2 goals), Lambert scored twelve goals in forty league games in 2003/04. After a disappointing season for both him and the club in the newly introduced Football League One 2004/05, Stockport rose to the fourth division. Rickie Lambert (29 games / 4 goals) had left the club on February 17, 2005 and moved to the fourth division AFC Rochdale . The 23-year-old striker achieved his final breakthrough in Football League Two in 2005/06 with twenty-two league goals and winning the top scorer together with Karl Hawley from Carlisle United.

Bristol Rovers (2006-2009)

On August 31, 2006, he moved to Bristol Rovers for £ 200,000 and ended the season with his new team in sixth place. In the subsequent play-offs, Lambert (36 games / 8 goals) with Bristol prevailed 3-1 against Shrewsbury Town in the final. After relegation to League One in 2007/08, Rickie Lambert won the title of top scorer in the third division in 2008/09 together with Simon Cox from Swindon Town (29 league goals each). Bristol finished the season, however, despite his numerous goals only in eleventh.

Southampton FC (2009-2014)

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Lambert moved to Southampton FC . His new club, which had played uninterruptedly in the top English league for 27 years until 2004/05 , had previously been relegated from the Football League Championship in 2008/09 and thus returned to the third division for the first time since 1960. Due to a ten-point deduction, Southampton missed out on the play-offs as seventh in the table. Lambert (45 games / 30 goals) was the top scorer in the third division for the second time in a row. In the second year in Football League One 2010/11 , Southampton FC rose to the second division as runner-up behind Brighton & Hove Albion . Lambert had contributed 21 goals to promotion. He was also the top scorer in the second division with 27 goals and was promoted directly to the Premier League . The next year his club managed to stay in the league in 14th place. Lambert scored 15 goals.

Liverpool FC (2014-2015)

On June 2, 2014 Lambert was signed by Liverpool FC .

West Bromwich Albion (2015-2016)

For the 2015/16 season Lambert moved to West Bromwich Albion .

National team (2013-2014)

At the age of 31, Lambert was invited to the English national team for the first time in 2013 . In the friendly against Scotland on August 14th, shortly after being substituted on, he scored the winning goal to make it 3-2.
