Ricky Renée
Ricky Renée (* 3. September 1929 as Jack Gilbert Renner in Indianapolis ; † 29. October 2017 in Nuremberg , Germany ) was an American actor and drag artist .
Life
Ricky left Indiana at the age of twelve and moved to Florida . At 14 he went to New York , where he worked as a dance instructor, elevator operator and in cabarets. He also studied acting with Katherine Dunham and was on stage as an entertainer in the "Jewel Box" for several years. Finally he put together his own show, for which he wrote the choreography , designed and sewed all the costumes, and in which he conducted his orchestra. In one of these shows he was finally hired by a show producer from London , from where an international show career began.
In the following years, Ricky Renée appeared with Ella Fitzgerald , Josephine Baker and Jayne Mansfield , all of whom he imitated on stage, and gave guest performances with his show in Paris , Vienna , Rome and along the Côte d'Azur .
Renner was buried in March 2018 in Frankfurt am Main .
