Rico Nestmann

Rico Nestmann (born December 17, 1969 in Bergen (Rügen) ; † February 3, 2016 in Gingst ) was a German photographer , journalist and writer. He dealt with wildlife and nature photography .

Life

Rico Nestmann has been interested in the local nature since childhood. From May 1996 he worked as a freelance photographer, journalist and writer. Among other things, he worked for the local Rügen editorial team of the Ostsee-Zeitung , for which he reported on local politics and local sports on the island of Rügen. As an animal and nature photographer, he published several illustrated books and photo books.

In 2000 he became a member of the Society of German Animal Photographers (GDT), whose regional group IX Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania he headed from 2003 to 2008. Since 2011 he has been a member of the German crane protection working group. Nestmann supported the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) and WWF Germany . He ran his own publishing house and photo agency.

In 2012, Norddeutsche Rundfunk filmed the documentary NaturNah - Rügen's wilderness on the doorstep about Rico Nestmann and his work.

On February 3, 2016, Rico Nestmann was killed in a fall from an animal observation post, which was located at a height of 18 meters in a tree near Gingst.
