Mile Prerad
Mile Prerad ( Serbian - Cyrillic Миле Прерад , * 1946 in Niševići ( Prijedor , Bosnia and Herzegovina )) is a Serbian- Bosnian- German sculptor .
Life
Prerad spent his childhood and youth in his birthplace and attended the "Vuk Karadžić" elementary school in Omarska , before moving to Zagreb and from 1963 he attended the sculpture department at the Art School. In 1966 he emigrated to Germany, where his father was already living as a miner in the Ruhr area, settled in Menden and completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and roofer. He married in 1968, followed by the master craftsman examination in 1980.
In addition to his job, he attended the summer art academy in Trier in 1977 and worked as an artist. Initially his works were made from wood, later also from granite. In 1986 he was awarded the art prize of the city of Menden. In the following years he took part in exhibitions and created large-format sculptures that were set up in public spaces, including in Dortmund and Menden.
In 1996 he handed over his roofing company to his son and moved with his wife Marie-Anne to Lobkevitz / Breege on Rügen , where he set up a new studio. In 2000, Prerad was awarded the Intra Project Prize for Complementarity of Religions of the Interreligious Office (INTR ° A). The award, endowed with 5,000 euros, is provided by the Apple Tree Foundation in Cologne .
His art projects deal with topics such as integration, faith and peace. He works mainly in wood and stone. Typical for his work are mostly wooden steles several meters high and large-format granite sculptures from Rügen boulders . “Mile Prerad comes from the folk art of Yugoslavia and has left it behind like a trail that leads back to its creator. His art is rustic and subtle at the same time - captures even the slightest shadow of the mind. "
