Rico Tscharntke (born April 19, 1973 in Dresden , GDR ) is a Berlin light artist , inventor and cultural activist.

Life

After training as a locksmith and studying communication science, he worked for 10 years as a freelance and employed journalist for television stations in Germany and abroad.

He lives in Berlin-Friedrichshain .

Act

In addition to his intensive photographic and documentary work, he founded the artist group Lichtpiraten in Berlin in 2006. The artistic focus of the group lies in the design of light installations and projections for light festivals, clubs and events. As ambassadors for the city of Berlin, the light pirates are part of the "be Berlin" campaign and represent it worldwide with "good light". Today they are a loose network of different artists and together they realized and documented hundreds of video installations in twenty countries on four continents.

In 2008 he founded Biostructure GmbH to coordinate and handle the cooperation of over 30 partners worldwide. One of the company's milestones was the development of the open source software OMNIDOME, which is used in projection technology around the world today. This offers the possibility of consuming a video on a three-dimensional body. The software makes it possible to achieve a result with common computer technology that was previously only achieved with special hardware and profound software knowledge.

Rico is one of the founders of the Sisyphos techno club in Berlin.

3D projection

His current focus of work is projection onto spherical bodies. He was supported in this by the TU Berlin and the Federal Ministry of Economics through an EXIST grant .
