Private investigator Conrad McRae lives in Los Angeles . One day, the musician Benjamin, who is a friend of McRae, is found shot dead. According to the official version, the rapper is said to have killed himself. McRae doesn't believe in it because Benjamin was a successful professionally and must have used his right hand while he was left-handed .
McRae does his own research; the friend of the victim helps him. The investigator learns that Benjamin married about a week before his death. McRae receives further information from a university professor. The lead leads the investigator to a record label involved in opaque business practices .

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "an action comedy largely made up of black actors that quotes and satirizes the" film noir "classics and James Bond films ". He put " a good measure of self-irony on the day ".
