Riedbahn Bridge West

The Riedbahnbrücke West , also called the Westliche Riedbahnbrücke , is a railway bridge in Mannheim and the last bridge over the Neckar before it flows into the Rhine. It runs at Neckar-km 1.88, about 300 m downstream from the Jungbuschbrücke , between the city districts of Innenstadt / Jungbusch and Neckarstadt-West .

Western introduction of the Riedbahn

The Riedbahnbrücke West was completed in 1985 as part of the double-track "Western introduction of the Riedbahn ", which leads from the north west past Mannheim city center to Mannheim Central Station . This is implemented in the port area as a 2200 m long elevated carriageway. The Riedbahnbrücke West connects them across the Neckar. Regional trains of the Rhein-Neckar transport association as well as three ICE lines that connect southern Germany with Berlin , Hamburg , Cologne and Dortmund now operate on the route . The French TGV trains between Frankfurt and Paris as well as Frankfurt and Marseille also run here.

description

In terms of construction, the Riedbahnbrücke West is a tied arch bridge ( Langerscher Barken ) with a steel arch and a suspended deck over the stream opening. The arched ribs are connected to one another by an X-framework. The arch span of the 21 m high bridge is 120 m. The road girder continues on the banks of the Neckar over the side fields of the flood area.
