The Rifugio Giorgio Bertone is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps . It is located at an altitude of 1979  m in the Val Ferret side valley in the Pré Monte della Saxe district within the municipality of Courmayeur . The hut is open from the middle of March to the beginning of May and from the beginning of June to the end of September and offers sleeping places for 42 climbers during this period.

The refuge is located both on the Alta via della Val d'Aosta n.1 and on the Tour du Mont-Blanc .

Ascent

The ascent to the hut begins in the Plampincieux district .

The entire route from the parking lot at the Chapel of Plampincieux to the Rifugio Giorgio Bertone, without any difficulties, should take about 1½ hours. Alternatively, the hut can be accessed within the same time from the district of Villair via the Val Sapin.

history

The refuge was inaugurated in 1982 and dedicated to the alpinist and mountain guide Giorgio Bertone, who had a fatal accident in his plane on the Ghiacciaio del Freney glacier .
