The Rifugio Walter Bonatti is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2025 m in the Val Ferret side valley on the Malatrà area within the municipality of Courmayeur . The hut is managed from the beginning of March to the end of September and offers sleeping places for 76 mountaineers during this time.
The refuge is located on the Alta via della Val d'Aosta n.1 as well as on the Tour du Mont-Blanc and the Tour du Saint-Bernard .
Ascent
From Courmayeur, drive towards the Val Ferret side valley. There is a parking lot at the Lavechey district ( 1642 m ).
The entire route from the car park at Lavechey to the Rifugio Walter Bonati, which is not difficult, takes around 1 hour. Alternatively, there is an ascent via Alp Gioé, which is 20 minutes longer.

The refuge was inaugurated on August 2, 1998 and dedicated to the famous mountaineer Walter Bonatti .
