The Tour du Mont-Blanc (abbreviated TMB ) is a long-distance hiking trail in the Alps .

Route

The route runs around the Mont-Blanc group , passes through three countries ( France , Italy and Switzerland ) and is part of the GR long-distance hiking network . The length is about 170 km with about 10,000 meters of altitude . It is usually done counterclockwise in seven to ten days.

On the French side of the road from the valley that leads Arve (with the main towns Chamonix and Les Houches ) over the Val Montjoie and the center of Les Contamines-Montjoie in the community to Bourg-Saint-Maurice belonging des Glaciers Vallée . From the hamlet of Les Chapieux you can then cross the Col de la Seigne to the Rifugio Elisabetta Soldini Montanaro in Italy and through the Val Veny to Courmayeur . Northwards it now goes over the Italian Val Ferret over the Grand Col Ferret into the Swiss Val Ferret to Champex-Lac .

Different variants run south from Martigny to Trient VS ; the high alpine route leads over the Val d'Arpette and the 2665 m high Fenêtre d'Arpette . From Trento, in turn, there are various pass routes back to France.

Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc

Since 2003, the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) has been taking place on a route that largely runs along the Tour du Mont-Blanc, an ultra- marathon in which the best runners need a little more than 19 hours to complete the route.
