Rilès (born January 4, 1996 in Rouen ; real life Rilès Kacimi ) is a French rapper , songwriter and producer .

life and work

Rilès Kacimi grew up in the French community of Rouen , his family is originally from Algeria. After completing his bachelor's degree in natural sciences , Rilès studied English literature at the University of Rouen and worked for a while as a supervisor at a high school in Canteleu .

He produced his first music independently of a label and in English. He was inspired by American hip-hop artists, for example Kanye West , with whom he also recorded the song BELLEK . At home in his bedroom he built his own home studio, where he taught himself everything he needed to produce with the help of YouTube tutorials. He produces with the Digital Audio Workstation Reason .

Rilès made music videos for his plays College Dropout , Another Complaint But and Brothers . On January 11, 2018, he first released the music video for Pesetas , which was filmed in the Salar de Uyuni desert , then on April 29, 2018, the video of Should I , which was filmed in Los Angeles. Two of his videos ( Brothers and I Do It ) appeared in the top 50 of the French charts. His most-clicked video Brothers has already had more than 37 million clicks on YouTube (as of May 29, 2019).

From September 2016 to September 2017, he took on the challenge of publishing a song on YouTube every week, the Rilèsundayz project. In an interview with Radio Eins , he named the reasons for this project on the one hand self-promotion and on the other hand that time flies faster in the digital world. During this Rilèsundayz he managed to create an acrostic poem with the titles of each song . The sentence thus formed is a Latin phrase: "O sed fugit interea, fugit irreparabile tempus, audeamus nunc." He means: " I n the meantime escapes irreplaceable time ." This is directly related to his logo, an hourglass . In April 2017, his fame rose thanks to a video by Youtubers Seb la Frite , which was dedicated to him.

In addition to his album Vanity Plus Mind , Rilès has produced 52 songs, two of which ( Brothers and Thank God ) were awarded the gold record in France in October 2017 . At the beginning of 2018 Brothers was awarded platinum and at the end of 2018 he achieved gold with I Do It .

After releasing his first album (Vanity Plus Mind), Riles organized a tour in Europe and Latin America with 22 concerts in 2017 , which he titled the Jungle Tour . Almost all concerts were sold out.

On March 19, 2018, he announced on Facebook and Twitter that he had signed a partnership agreement with Republic Records and Sony / ATV Music .

On the night of June 21st to June 22nd, 2018, he released a new song on YouTube called ! I'll Be Back! , inspired by the theme song from the anime Naruto. At the end of the video, he announced the upcoming release of an album.

On February 8, 2019, he released the single Marijuana from his future album , followed by a video in which Snoop Dogg appears. According to him, the song is about his relationship with cannabis and its counterproductive effects, which go against his habits and mentality. The chorus "Baby, you've been on my mind" is intended to introduce the song in an attractive way to outsmart the listener. You could think that he was talking about a woman in relation to sex and lust, which in a way is also a drug.

The first part (March – April) of the Tiger Tour 2019 included nine concerts in several countries, such as Germany and the United States of America . The second part (November – December) will take place exclusively in France and Belgium and consist of 12 concerts in less than a month. During the concerts he published songs on Instagram (partly also on YouTube), which he called Rilèsnippetz .

His debut album Welcome to the Jungle was released in August 2019 and reached the top 10 of the French and Walloon album charts.
