Roberto Kriete

Roberto José Kriete Ávila (* 1952 or 1953 in San Salvador ) is a Salvadoran - Colombian entrepreneur. He is chairman of Kingsland Holdings ( Bahamas ), the largest minority shareholder of Avianca Holdings is, and president of the family-owned Grupo Kriete . On May 24, 2019, Kriete was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Colombian airline Avianca by the US airline United Airlines , due to certain rights it exercises in its relationship with BRW Aviation as a 78.1 percent majority shareholder of Avianca , with the instruction to redefine the CEO and the Board of Directors .

Life

Origin and family

Roberto José Kriete Ávila comes from a wealthy Salvadoran family. Together with his relative Ricardo Poma , he is the only Salvadoran who is on the list of the rich in Central America , according to Forbes magazine . The family fortune began with his German-born grandfather Ricardo Kriete, who had come to San Salvador from San Francisco and married a Central American local coffee heiress from Usulután . After working in the agro-industry , the family began their adventure in the aviation industry in 1961 . Kriete’s father bought 30 percent of the shares in Transportes Aéreos de Centro América (TACA) from a New Zealander and handed over management of the company to his son, who has expanded his stake in TACA to 98 percent since 1980 by including the family.

Education and career

He earned an MBA from Boston College and a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University . From that time he began to develop relationships with airline United Airlines, but returned to El Salvador where he became the richest businessman over the years. In his previous career, he was Deputy Director at Real InterContinental San Salvador, Chairman of Compania de Inversiones del Grupo Kriete, and Chairman and CEO of TACA Holdings . Kriete was on the board of Avianca Holdings from February 2010 to August 2013 , secretary and director of Banco Agricola Comercial de El Salvador SA, chairman of the Fundación Coatepeque de El Salvador and at the head of twelve other different companies.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mexican telecommunications company Telmex . He is a Director of AGAPE and Member of the Board of Aveos Fleet Performance Inc . He was a member of the Board of Directors of Banco Agrícola El Salvador . He was the founder and board member of the low-cost airline Volaris in Mexico . He's an officer's medal of the Legion of Honor of the French Government and the honorary prize in 2007 think tank Fundacion para el Desarrollo Económico Salvadoreña y Social (FUSADES) were obtained.

Roberto Kriete is married to Celina Sol de Kriete and they have two sons.
