The inedible Rillstielige Helmling ( Mycena polygramma ) is a type of mushroom from the family of the Helmling relatives (Mycenaceae). The fruiting bodies of the Helmling appear from May to December and often grow on dead oak.
features
Macroscopic features
The thin, dry hat is more or less conical and 1.5–4 (-5) cm wide. The edge is roughly grooved. The matt, frosted surface is light to dark gray or brown in color and often spotted rusty brown.
The lamellae are bulging on the stem and remain whitish to greyish white for a long time. Like hats, they often get rust-stained with age. The spore powder is white.
The long and slender-looking, hollow stem is 5–12 cm long and 0.2–0.6 cm wide. It is more or less gray and has a slightly bluish tint. Overall, it is colored a little darker than the hat. It is stiff, but frail and, at least when dry, noticeably longitudinally grooved. The thin, pale meat is almost odorless and tastes unobtrusive.
Microscopic features
The spores 8–10 µm long and 6–7 µm wide. The cheilocystidia are slender and smooth.
Species delimitation
The Slippery Helmling ( Mycena laevigata ) is quite similar with a whitish, yellow-brownish hat with a smooth stem. It is only more common in mountainous areas. Its spores are somewhat smaller (7–8 µm × 4 µm).
Ecology and diffusion
The fruiting bodies of the Helmling appear from May to December individually or in small clusters on or next to old stumps. It often grows on dead oak in the initial phase of the decomposition. The fungus is common and widespread across Europe.
meaning
