He earned an engineering degree from the Australian Maritime College and a diploma in Tropical Fisheries Management from the University of the South Pacific . He then took a position in the Kiribati Public Administration and worked in the surveillance of foreign fishing vessels in Kiribati waters and was in charge of fishing licenses.

For the first time he was elected to the Maneaba ni Maungatabu ( English House of Assembly ) in the 2002 parliamentary elections for the Nikunau constituency. He took the place of his father, Beniamina Tinga . His father had worked in politics for many years and was most recently Vice President. He had to retire for health reasons. He also retained his seat in the early elections of 2003, which had become necessary due to a government crisis , and in the 2007 elections. In August 2010, after the merger of the parties Maneaban Te Mauri ( German  Protects Maneaba! ) And Kiribati Tabomoa , he became to the party leader of the new Karikirakean Te I-Kiribati party and at the same time to the opposition leader in the parliament of President Anote Tong . In 2011 he was re-elected and sought the presidency. Tetaua Taitai was a candidate for the Karikirakean Te I-Kiribati party, while Beniamina moved to the Maurin Kiribati party , which nominated him as a candidate for the presidency. He came third with 22.8% of the vote.

He then sided with the majority in parliament under President Anote Tong , who appointed him Minister of Communications, Transport and Tourism. He was also Vice-President of the Parliamentary Commission on Climate Change, a key issue in Tong's tenure. In 2016 he was able to defend his seat as a member of the Boutokaan te koaua party , the former ruling party. He was re-run as a presidential candidate by Parliament.
