The ring wall Wischlburg , also called Römerschanze , is a defunct early medieval ring wall system ( Wallburg ) on the southern bank of the Danube in Wischlburg (Römerstrasse), a district of the municipality Stephansposching in the Deggendorf district in Bavaria .
The ring wall, probably built as a refuge on the occasion of the Hungarian invasions , was mentioned in 976 as "famulantium Vuisciliburg".
Today, considerable parts of the partially built-up ramparts with an extension of 260 by 220 meters, a width of 35 to 40 meters and a height of 3.5 meters still testify to the approximately 5.5 hectares of the inner area in the town center behind the houses . The trench is 3.5 meters deep. During construction work in 2004, another trench was discovered within the existing wall, which suggests a double wall-trench system.
