The Riserva naturale orientata Capo Rama is a nature reserve in the metropolitan city of Palermo in the Italian region of Sicily .
territory
The nature reserve with the EUAP identification EUAP1101 is located on the north coast of the island of Sicily west of Palermo in the municipality of Terrasini . The territory extends over an approximately trapezoidal rock plateau , which slopes steeply on three sides to the Tyrrhenian Sea . To the northeast the area borders on the bay of Cala Rossa and to the southwest on the Gulf of Castellammare . In the northwest heard nor the maritime area between the rocky coast and a straight line connecting the two Cape s Capo Rama at the end of the Gulf of Castellammare and Punta Catalana at the end of Cala Rossa to the nature reserve. On this part of the coast lies Cala Porro, a bay where the surf has formed large grottos in the rock.
Two different types of landscape are predominantly represented in the nature reserve: The coastal area on three sides of the reserve consists of bare rock with the typical rocky vegetation, while in the interior there is predominantly sandy soil with macchia vegetation.
The actual protected area (Zone A) has an area of 21 ha . On the south-east side, a zone B with a lower degree of protection is in front of it towards the interior, so that the total area is 57 ha. On this side there are three entrances, from which partly sandy, partly rocky paths lead through the different areas of the reserve.
The management of the nature reserve is entrusted to WWF Italia, the Italian section of WWF (World Wide Fund For Nature). The area is also part of the SIC (Sito di Importanza Comunitaria) "Cala Rossa e Capo Rama" with the identification IT020009, which also includes the entire coast of Cala Rossa and other coastal stretches east of Cala Rossa and south of Capo Rama.

On the Capo Rama stands one of the oldest of the coastal watch towers in Sicily, the Torre di Capo Rama .
