Risk was a German thrash metal band from Witten . The group released a total of five albums and one MCD from 1988 to 1993.

Band history

Risk emerged from the progressive rock band Faithful Breath . The line-up around Heinz Mikus (vocals), Thilo Hermann (guitar), Peter Dell (bass) and Jürgen Düsterloh (drums) was renamed and adapted the thrash metal style that was popular in the mid-1980s. Thilo Hermann, who was also active with Holy Moses , played a demo with the group . The band received a record deal with the SPV label . The debut album The Daily Horror News… (… from the lost side of the world) was released in 1988 with Roman Keymer (ex- Angel Dust ) as guitarist. Singer Heinz Mikus played the second guitar. The covers of this and the following albums, drawn by Sebastian Krüger in the comic style , contributed to the group's fame .

In 1988 the group toured Germany with Sabbat and Rage and in 1989 as a support act for Manowar through Europe. In the meantime Thilo Herrmann had returned to the group. In 1989 the album Hell's Animal , which sold around 15,000 copies, and the EP Ratman were also released . Dirty Surfaces from 1990 became the group's biggest success with 25,000 copies sold. Risk appears in Prague together with Running Wild in front of around 25,000 fans. After Thilo Hermann left the band to pursue his own projects, Christian Sumser completed the line-up.

Then the group slowly loses its status. The album Reborn (1992) represented a departure from the band's fun image. The group had always understood each other differently than the Krüger covers conveyed it. Reborn had a rather serious cover by Andreas Marschall . The group also breaks new ground musically. The concept album about the ancient Indian deity Ravana has sitar sounds and is more oriented towards Power Metal . The subsequent tour with Raven was successful, but not as expected. Peter Dell separated from the band in the run-up to the production of 'Tupitude', but stayed with the band for graphic work on the production of 'Turpitude'.

As a result of a sudden hearing loss and the resulting tinnitus, Roman Keymer left the band after the production of 'Turpitude'.

The remaining trio Sumser / Mikus / Düsterloh let the option of producing another album on the SPV label pass and eventually broke up.
