Risto Edvard Hurme (born May 16, 1950 in Turku ) is a former Finnish pentathlete and fencer .

Career

Hurme was twice a participant in the Olympic Games and competed both times in fencing and in modern pentathlon. At the 1972 Games in Munich , he finished eighth in the modern pentathlon singles. With the team, which consisted of Hurme, Martti Ketelä and Veikko Salminen , he won the bronze medal . In fencing he was eliminated in the group quarter-finals of the epee singles. In 1976 in Montreal he reached eleventh place in the individual and seventh place in the team standings. In contrast to the previous games, Hurme competed in fencing this time in the team competition and landed on a shared eleventh place with the sword team.

At world championships a fourth place in the individual, which he achieved in 1971 and 1973 , was his best result.

In 1969 he was Finnish champion in epee fencing. With the team he was twice national champion. Hurme studied at New York University and now runs a dental practice in San Antonio .
