Rita Lakin

Rita Lakin (* 1930 ) is an American writer , screenwriter and showrunner .

Life

As a young woman, Lakin was a widow and single mother of three children. She began her career as a screenwriter in 1964 with episode books, among others for assistant doctor Dr. Kildare and The People at Shiloh Ranch . From 1965 to 1966 she wrote 62 episodes for the soap opera Peyton Place ; Between 1967 and 1969 she wrote the script for 450 episodes of The Doctors . In 1970 she was nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award and the Edgar Allan Poe Award for her book on the series In This Corner - Sol Alpert of the crime series Twen-Police .

In 1972 she created the crime series California Cops - New in Action , of which four seasons were created until 1976. In 1981 she developed the television series Flamingo Road based on the 1949 film The Road of the Successful . She created the short-lived doctor series Nightingales with Frank Furino and Howard Lakin. Between 2005 and 2011, Lakin wrote seven novels about the retiree Gladdy Gold , who solve crimes in Florida. In 2015 she published her autobiography The Only Woman In The Room .
