Flamingo Road is a 1980s American soap opera produced by NBC . The pilot was broadcast on May 12, 1980 in the United States, the series started in January 1981. NBC hoped for Flamingo Road a similar success as CBS could book with Dallas and Knots Landing . However, the series was not granted such a success. What remains is a touch of cult (- after all, a brothel was the focus and the "Madam" was a popular figure.) The television series Falcon Crest (also on CBS) and The Denver Clan (on ABC ) were significantly more durable and found a larger audience.
Flamingo Road based on a feature film in 1949 with Joan Crawford in the lead role, according to a book by Robert Wilder . As in the other soap operas , it was about power, intrigue and sex. The action took place in the fictional city of Truro in Florida . In Germany, the series was broadcast Tuesday evening by ARD as a “summer break filler” for Dallas . Later repetitions followed on the third programs.
