Barbara Rush

Barbara Rush (* 4. January 1927 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American actress . She gained fame in 1953 in the female lead in the science fiction film Danger from Space , for which she received a Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actress in 1954 . In addition to her film career, Rush also appeared as an actress in a variety of well-known television series.

Life

Barbara Rush grew up in Santa Barbara , where she studied at the University of California and graduated in 1948. Rush took her first stage experience and acting lessons at the Pasadena Playhouse . In 1950 she got a film contract with Paramount Pictures .

In 1951, Rush starred in her first film, the Paramount production The Goldbergs . Shortly afterwards she played her first leading roles. 1953 and 1954 followed with Danger from Outer Space and The Wonderful Power, two of her most famous films, both of which were produced by Universal Studios . In 1954, Barbara Rush received the Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actress for the female lead in Ellen Fields in Peril from Space . She won this award with Pat Crowley and Bella Darvi .

In the 1960s, their activities shifted increasingly to television. In the following years Rush was seen in a variety of well-known series, but occasionally continued to work in film productions. Among other things, she played the role of Eve Coe in Strangers in 1960 , when we meet at the side of Kirk Douglas and Kim Novak . From 1980 to 1982 she worked as Eudora Weldon in the US series Flamingo Road . She became known to a younger audience through her role as Ruth Camden in the television series A Heavenly Family , which she played from 1997 to 2007. Subsequently, Rush ended her acting career at the age of 80.

Barbara Rush was married three times. In 1950 she married the actor Jeffrey Hunter ; Son Christopher Hunter was born in 1952. The couple divorced in 1955. In 1959 she married Warren Cowan , with whom she was married until 1969. She has a daughter with him, the Fox journalist Claudia Cowan. In 1970 Barbara Rush married Jim Gruzalski; her third marriage was also divorced in 1973.
