Kevin McCarthy
Kevin McCarthy (born February 15, 1914 in Seattle , Washington , † September 11, 2010 in Hyannis , Massachusetts ) was an American actor .
life and career
Kevin McCarthy was the brother of the writer Mary McCarthy ; he was also a cousin of the US Senator and presidential candidate Eugene McCarthy . After the early death of her parents in 1918 at the Spanish flu siblings McCarthy grew with relatives in Prairie du Chien ( Wisconsin on) where McCarthy 1932 Campion High School graduated. He briefly attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC , because he originally wanted to be a diplomat . He later studied acting at the University of Minnesota .
McCarthy has appeared in 200 film and television productions since the mid-1940s. His greatest success was the part of Biff Loman in the film adaptation of Arthur Miller's drama Death of a Salesman from 1951. For this achievement he received an Oscar nomination in 1952 in the category Best Supporting Actor and in the same year a Golden Globe for best young actor .
He was also popularized by the role of Dr. Bennell known in the 1956 science fiction classic The Demonic . In the 1978 remake, The Body Eaters Are Coming , McCarthy made a guest appearance as the lunatic fleeing the alien invaders and being hit by a car.
In 1980/1981 he played the role of Claude Weldon in the US series Flamingo Road for 39 episodes .
McCarthy was married twice. In 1941 he married the actress Augusta Dabney , with whom he had three children. The couple divorced in 1961. In 1979 he went to the altar with Kate Crane, with whom he had two more children.
