Rita Joanne Simons (born March 10, 1977 in Essex , England ) is a British actress , singer and model .

life and career

Simons has an older brother named Ben and is the niece of multi-millionaire and businessman Alan Sugar . In March 2008, the British newspaper The Sun reported that Simons had scoliosis , which is why she is two inches shorter than she should be.

Before Simons pursued an acting career, she was a member of the British pop - girl group Girls @ Play . The band only existed from 2000 to 2001, but during this time they covered the song Respectable by the British pop duo Mel & Kim . After the band broke up, Simons devoted herself to her acting career and appeared in an episode of the Dream Team series in 2002 . Since 2007 she plays the role of Roxy Mitchell in the BBC - television series EastEnders .

Personal

In August 2006 Simons married the hairdresser Theo Silveston, whom she met through a friend when she was 19 years old. The two are parents of twins (* 2006).
