Hesselbach Manor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hesselbach manor was a mediate of the Principality of Bayreuth , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Principality of Bayreuth, which is part of the Franconian Empire , was also known as the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth and was ruled by branches of the House of Hohenzollern until the end of the 18th century .

geography

The approximately seven square kilometer manor Hesselbach was located in the southern part of the Franconian Forest and was located in the middle of the Kronach office belonging to the Bamberg monastery . Compared to other Franconian manors, it was not only distinguished by its relative size, but also by its closed territorial character. Its territory was almost completely enclosed by the Vogteibezirk of the Kronach Office, only on its southeastern border was there a narrow strip of territory that belonged to the Weissenbrunn-Steinberg manor , which was immediately part of the empire .

history

The first documentary evidence of the existence of the Hesselbach manor comes from the beginning of the 14th century, when it was mentioned as a fiefdom of the Counts of Orlamünde . After 1338/1340 it was owned by the von Zeyern noble family , whose feudal lords were the burgraves of Nuremberg and later the margraves of Brandenburg-Kulmbach . During the rule of the von Zeyern the manor was incorporated into the knight canton Gebirg , whereby it belonged to the Franconian knight circle . When the noble line of of Zeyern however 1610 with Christoph von Zeyern went out, it came to the reversion of the manor to the Margravate Brandenburg-Bayreuth, bringing the membership ended the Frankish knights circle. After the fiefdom was reissued in 1615, the manor was subsequently included in the Voigtland knighthood , which gave it the status of a Brandenburg-Bayreuth mediate. Together with the Principality of Bayreuth, the manor came into the possession of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810 .

structure

The Hesselbach manor was a margravial fief of the barons von Marschall zu Hesselbach , which was incorporated into the Voigtland knighthood. The administrative seat of the manor was in Hesselbach , where the barons owned a castle (which no longer exists today).

The following localities were located on the territory of the manor (the type of locality given reflects the status at the beginning of the 19th century):

The entire manor was located in the high court district of the Kronach Central Office, which is why the High Court was exercised by its Central Office . The Hochstift did not grant the Baron von Marschall zu Hesselbach a cent limitation granted to many other manors .
