Manor Schachten

The Rittergut Schachten is an estate on the western edge of the Schachten district of the city of Grebenstein in the Kassel district , Hesse . There is evidence that it had been in the possession of the Lords of Schachten since 1162 , until it died out in 1922, and to this day its heirs from the Count Grote family .

The courtyard complex, open to the east, with old and new manor houses and barns standing at right angles to it, is located in the northeast of a 2½ hectare park with a pond and is considered a highlight among the former Hessian manors.

In addition to the castle-like, two-storey mansion with its half-hipped roof and round stair tower on the south-east corner, the old mansion or administrator's house, which was rebuilt and expanded in the early years of the 19th century (with older components from the 17th Century, when the gentlemen von und zu Schachten rebuilt their headquarters after the destruction of the Thirty Years War ), the residential building at the entrance to the courtyard (dated 1691) and the barn building erected around 1910.

The farm is well preserved and is managed as a large agricultural business by the owner Karl-Ernst Graf Grote von und zu Schachten. It is a Hessian cultural monument and all major buildings are under monument protection .
