The River Sowe is a river in Warwickshire and the West Midlands , England . It rises in the Bedworth Woodlands and flows south of Stoneleigh into the River Avon .

The Sowe rises north of Coventry in the Bedworth Woodlands (Hookham) and meanders through the eastern suburbs of Coventry. The original streams are dammed up to small ponds (The Nook, Bedworth Sloughs), pass under the A444 (Bedworth Bypass) and thus enter the settlement area. Directly after the Sowe is in Bedworth verdolt and only comes back to the south of Dalton Road to the surface. It continues to the southwest, crosses under the A444 again and shortly afterwards the M6 motorway , whereupon the Breach Brook flows towards it after about 200 m from the west and to the right. It then turns more eastward, again crosses the A444, then under the railway line and the Coventry Canal, and from then on runs through the eastern suburbs of Coventry: Longford , Wood End , Walsgrave , Binley , Willenhall and near Baginton . There he also takes up the River Sherbourne . At Foleshill, the adjacent area is designated as River Sowe Floodplain Parkland . The 6.7 km long river landscape was preserved for flood control. At Baginton there is a bluff on the south side of the river where the remains of the Roman Lunt Fort were discovered. The fort is now partially reconstructed.

bridges

The River Sowe Viaduct in Tollbar End deserves a special mention . Shortly before it is crossed twice by the A4082 (Allard Way) and there are a number of bridges of the M6, the A444, as well as the crossing through the Coventry Canal .
